So many of us make a New Year’s Resolution each year. It ranges anywhere from becoming more financially sound, to dropping ex amount of weight by the end of the year.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with setting a goal, but you need to be realistic when doing so.
Many ask me what their workout routine should consist of in order to lose weight. I’m going to say it again… Over 80% of your results stem from the food you place in your body. Yes, working out can assist with toning, bulking, shredding etc. but if you want to see lasting results you have to evaluate what you’re intaking.
“Well, my friend…”
Yeah, to be honest, if you start your statement off this way I know that whatever you’re about to say is going to contradict the facts. What works for your friend probably won’t work for you. The reason being is, you are TWO Different People!!
“Well what should I eat?”
Within reason, whatever you want!I You do not have to cut out all sweets, soul food, etc to reach your goal. In fact, I discourage this because deprivation creates unhealthy food habits which will most likely result in over-indulging or food abuse later on.
I also do not encourage a ridiculously low calorie deficit because while you’ll get results, the chances of you sustaining any weight loss are slim to none.
“Well, carbs are bad for you.”
First off, really evaluate that statement. To keep it simple, carbohydrates are your body’s main source of energy!! You should never have to cut out one of your macronutrients (protein, carbs, fat) in order to achieve your goal. Food is good for you! If anyone tells you otherwise…RUN!
As far as the the workouts are concerned, if you are someone easily demotivated, don’t set yourself up for failure by beginning a workout regimen requiring you to train more than 2-3 times a week.
“Well why not?”
Because you’re not going to stick with it. Periodt. 💯 Life happens, and the first day you miss you’ll begin spiraling backwards until you eventually quit altogether.
It takes about 3 weeks to establish a routine, and it sometimes takes even longer depending on the person and how motivated they are.
We need to stop approaching eating healthy and working out as a temporary, short term fix! It should be a lifestyle.
Do you quit going to church because you missed a sermon?
Would you give up your child because of their inconsistent behavior patterns?
Probably not. So why do you keep quitting on yourself?
“That’s different…”
I beg the differ, these are lifestyle commitments, and they play a major role in your life. Why wouldn’t you value your health the same way?
We are so good at showing up for everyone but ourselves! I say, forget that! It’s time to show up for you BOO!
Set small milestones that you know you can achieve each week! Starting off with something as simple as drinking 1/2 a gallon of water a day is a SMART (simple, measurable, attain, realistic, timely) goal.
Next, focus on getting your steps in at least 3 times a week. This does not require you go to the gym! Simply wear your wrist band around all day and reach your goal that way!
By the end of the first month, you would have done major maintenance in your life without necessarily breaking a sweat!!
This is a lifestyle guys! These quick fixes are not going to get you where you want to be, and you will be more likely to succeed on your journey if you start looking at it this way!
2021 is all about breaking bad habits, replenishment, and moving forward!
